Altra Lone Peak 2.5 vs. Superior 2.0

Two shoes great reviews and a lot of positives, but not for the same purpose.

Lone peak 2.5

  • Great Comfort
  • Wide open, overlay free mesh for breathability
  • Lots of space for movement and freedom, therefor lack of snugness
  • Lack of support on angled terrain, therefor must go slow on a graded slope
  • Epic Grip on any terrain wet or dry and resistant outsole
  • Integrated Rockplate
  • 25mm of cush + 5mm insole, very soft feeling
  • Lack of dynamism especially in UK12 / US13 / EU48
  • Recommended for any distance
  • However for performance oriented runners, this will be a shoe of the ultra distance, over 15 hours or so
  • Tested on an 80km course and it was protecting me very well, also aided greatly my recovery post race, however I never felt like bombing down a section of opening up my stride. It kept me steady and regular.
  • The shoe is more likely a John Deer than a Ferrary
  • For it's purpose, great shoe, ton of protection and everlasting cushioning, If went for a 100miler, I would not bother changing shoe in the middle, just keep on cruising
  • Even heavier runners can use it
  • Cannot necessary feel the negative of the zero drop profile, like posterior chain tightness or calf issues, so transition can be very fast into the shoe

Superior 2.0

  • First feeling soft and cushy, but when increasing speed it firms up and starts flying
  • High quality closed rip stop mesh
  • Lack of inner space provides a snug fit, but still providing enormous space for the toes
  • Sizing is bizarre, MUST Try the shoe before buying it
  • Nice and flexible but protective toe bumper
  • Easy to lace snug system
  • 20mm outsole , way enough cushioning for any distance, but for efficient runners
  • No grip on wet surfaces at all. Small crampons too much exposed midsole
  • Only dry terrain and any distance
  • I would like to see this shoe with a full Vibram, Michelin, Continental or any grippy rubber outsole.
  • However, it is still very resistant
  • The shoe is a downhill monster ! It goes like a DH mountain biker. Nothing can stop it. Amazing mixture of protection and proprioception
  • Recommended for efficient guys cause the zero drop profile is more noticeable than before
  • Honestly, if the terrain was dry, or maybe wet and flattish, the shoe can go the distance. Try it with Injinji Toesocks
