High Fat Virus

Ironman legend Dave Scott posted this yesterday on twitter. This was not a surprise, as the endurance world is getting hooked on butter, coconut oil, olive oil, fish, avocados, nuts and seeds and slowly but surely getting away from the regular food pyramid.

Grains are still unfortunately highly there, but probably less refined and less glutenous. We try choosing jumbo oats instead of the little flakes, we take whole kamut berries and grind ourselves instead of buying flour or the bread and I think outside of France the regular bakeries are really getting into gluten-free whole grain breads.

This is fantastic, as fats contain more calories, a lot of nutrients, needs less space to grow it and serves more the environment. Deforested jungle-crop lands could be planted with avocado trees and nut bushes, more coconut and red palm trees could be grown. Yeah, heard it right. Unprocessed, cold pressed red palm oil is superbly good for you.

So a no grain, fat based energy approach with a lot of greens consumed are just superbly healthy. You avoid eating fats and sugars together and it will be even better. I mean adding avocados and nut butters to your current diet of pasta  and rice will not make you healthier, on the contrary. Nutrition timing/periodisation, food combining and healthy choices will. It doesn't mean that you cannot eat pasta and rice. But you will need less and less and you'll feel better. Your mind can control finally your body, not your taste buds. You do some light post-workout carb backloading if needed at all and eat a sweat potato at the evening and all good.

I am happy to see that the old pasta munchers are trying to benefit from heart healthy choices to reduce their inflammation and increase the chance to survive and thrive.
