Polar M600 Sporty overview

I actually read many reviews on the internet about this Polar M600 android wear watch, and I found all of them very positive and promissing. However I don't  think it was used and tested by real athletes in these reviews, who are out there every day and hammering the sweat morning, midday and evening.  Why do I think this ? Let's find out !

Don't get me wrong, the M600 is a great watch, nothing too bad about it. 99% of all runners don't use functions like the Zone Lock, don't use special data fields for training, like Lap Pace, Elevation Gain, vertical speed and don't even check back on an onlinesoftware, to see that what they've done is correct. However I do, cause I want to improve, I want to train and while I rely on my watch to give me feedback, I don't really want to be bothered by it.

In the M600 I find all the functions, the touchscreen and the notifications very annoying. I find the too many non-sport options unnecessary for the real athlete.
The battery life is only 1 day if you were connected to I-Phone or 2 days if connected to android and there is not even 24/7 heart rate reading, like we see in the FitBit Charge Two with 5 to 7 days of battery life.
You can quick access the sport mode and probably you can even change the run data fields somehow, but I did not even bother, to learn about it. I went out for a quick run, checked my stuff here and there and I did not go out with the watch again. It is not intuitive and has no quick accessibility. I am really into tech, I like how it can make your life better, if used well. I never had a problem switching from DOS to windows, from windows to MAC, using android or IOS, learning Final Cut or Photoshop/Gimp in a matter of hours. It is not that. I just don't feel like this watch is useful for me at all.

10 hours of battery life in GPS mode ? This 10hours is true only if you went out for a 10hour constant run immediately after you disconnected the watch from the charger. I mean that is just not good from the 500mAh battery. The Garmin Fenix 3 can do twice as much with a 300mAh battery. So if screen is non-lit and buttons are not touched, the Polar should be able to provide like 20 to 30hours of battery life, but the processor in the device just eats up all the energy. The USB snap on charging cable is thick and non-stable, so you cannot charge the watch on your wrist.

However since the V800, one thing about the Polar is sure. It has epic GPS reception. I mean it is as precise and nearly as good as the Suunto Spartan.
The second positive would be the quality heart rate sensor. In my opinion there is no real good optical device outside of MIO in the whole optical market. I did not try high end Valencell models like Scosche or the New Tigra Trio (what works only with I-Phone, nothing else) , but if you wanted to train with heart rate and want to use the optical heart rate sensor not only for activity monitoring, MIO and this new Polar are precise and reliable.

If you wanted a watch what needs charging every other day, like a smartphone what is connected all the time, then go ahead. If you needed your messages, the possibility to cancel phone calls and check your calendar on your watch, to receive fb and text messages just on your wrist, this might be it.
Need a sports watch ? I would be looking somewhere else. V800 from Polar, Garmin Fenix 3 or 920XT, Suunto Spartan Ultra or Sport.
